Spring Concert- Annelies

Saturday 25 March 2023:

Rutland Choral Society is excited to be performing 'Annelies' for our Spring concert – a full-length choral work based on the Diary of Anne Frank, written by British Composer James Whitbourn. The choir first performed this piece in 2018 and found it so moving and powerful that they decided to repeat the experience!

Originally performed in 2005 by the choir of Clare College, Cambridge and the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra, this moving piece brings to life the diary written by Annelies Marie Frank between 1942 and 1944 when she and her family hid in the back of an Amsterdam warehouse. The work takes her contrasting range of profound thoughts from this extraordinary diary and combines them with haunting yet beautiful melodies. Whitbourn’s devastatingly restrained treatment of the subject makes it all the more poignant.

Rehearsals are already underway and Rutland Choral Society will join forces with talented professional instrumentalists and young soloists to perform this powerful work, including piano trio OPUS 3 - Melanie Reinhard (piano), Christopher White (violin), Andrew Bound (cello)) and guest clarinettist Steve Morris..

'Annelies' will be performed on Saturday 25th March in Oakham Chapel at 7.30pm and the event is supported by the High Sheriff of Rutland.

Ticket Prices: Adults: £12 from choral society members and on the door. Children under 16 years: free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available online (see below) or in person from Oakham Wines, choral society members and on the door.
